Abstract
This monograph examines the principal theoretical perspectives on autonomy during the transition to adulthood, a critical stage between the ages of 18 and 25. Autonomy is understood as the capacity to make responsible decisions and assume personal responsibilities. Through a rigorous documentary review of scientific literature published between 2015 and 2025, key personal, social, and structural factors influencing the development of youth autonomy were identified. The findings emphasize that autonomy is not a simple individual achievement but rather a dynamic, contextual, and multifactorial process shaped by psychological, familial, economic, and cultural factors. The research concludes that fostering autonomy requires not only strengthening personal competencies but also transforming the social conditions that enable a fair and sustainable transition to independent adulthood. The study adopted a documentary, analytical, and qualitative approach, conducting a systematic and critical review of scientific literature available in academic databases, particularly Google Scholar. The initial search yielded 187 articles, with inclusion criteria applied to focus on relevant studies addressing autonomy in the transition to adulthood, targeting populations aged 18–25 and published between 2015 and 2025. Ultimately, 11 articles (8 empirical and 3 theoretical) were selected for analysis. Analytical techniques included thematic analysis, theoretical comparison, pattern identification, comparative matrix construction, and critical synthesis of findings
