Abstract
Este estudio explora la complejidad y las interacciones sociales en la producción de cacao en Tumaco, utilizando un enfoque cualitativo basado en la teoría fundamentada de Glaser y Strauss. La investigación se centra en mejorar la sostenibilidad y eficiencia de la producción de cacao, esencial para la economía local. Se analizaron las prácticas actuales, desafíos y oportunidades para la sostenibilidad a través de entrevistas en profundidad, observación participante y análisis de contenido. Los resultados indican que los directivos de Chocolates Tumaco perciben un nivel de innovación moderadamente alto, con una media de 3.6 en una escala de 1 a 5, aunque hay margen para mejorar. La distribución de edades y experiencia entre los directivos es diversa, lo que puede contribuir a una variedad de enfoques en la gestión de la innovación. Los principales retos identificados incluyen la falta de tecnología y la necesidad de capacitación del personal, mencionados con alta frecuencia. Otros desafíos, como el financiamiento y la gestión del cambio, también son relevantes, pero menos frecuentes. Este estudio subraya la importancia de implementar políticas y programas que promuevan prácticas sostenibles y fortalezcan las capacidades locales. Además de contribuir al conocimiento académico sobre sostenibilidad agrícola, el estudio ofrece recomendaciones prácticas para los actores involucrados en el desarrollo del sector cacaotero en Tumaco.
This study explores the complexity and social interactions in cocoa production in Tumaco, using a qualitative approach based on Glaser and Strauss's grounded theory. The research focuses on improving the sustainability and efficiency of cocoa production, which is essential for the local economy. Current practices, challenges, and opportunities for sustainability were analyzed through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and content analysis. The results indicate that the executives of Chocolates Tumaco perceive a moderately high level of innovation, with an average score of 3.6 on a scale of 1 to 5, although there is room for improvement. The diversity in ages and experience among the executives may contribute to a range of approaches in managing innovation. The main challenges identified include the lack of technology and the need for staff training, which were mentioned frequently. Other challenges, such as financing and change management, are also relevant but less frequently mentioned. This study highlights the importance of implementing policies and programs that promote sustainable practices and strengthen local capacities. In addition to contributing to academic knowledge on agricultural sustainability, the study offers practical recommendations for stakeholders involved in the development of the cocoa sector in Tumaco.
