Abstract
The lack of mobile phone and internet coverage provided by TIGO in the municipality of Madrid, Cundinamarca, has caused issues that affect the daily lives of residents, businesses, and emergency services, particularly in rural areas. Methodologically, a mixed approach was adopted, combining quantitative analysis, based on data from official sources such as the CRC and DANE, with qualitative data gathered through surveys and interviews with Madrid residents. The sample included between 80 and 120 individuals to ensure a representative view of the population. The analysis focused on identifying areas with poor coverage, the technical and management factors involved, and the consequences of lack of connectivity on academic, commercial, and work-related activities. The results revealed that coverage is insufficient, with frequent complaints regarding service speed and stability. Rural areas showed the most significant deficiencies. The population expressed concern about service reliability, particularly during emergencies. Conclusions highlight the urgent need for infrastructure investments and collaboration between TIGO and local authorities to ensure equitable connectivity and close the digital divide. Digital literacy programs are also recommended to maximize the impact of service improvements.
