Abstract
This monograph analyzes the influence of family factors on disruptive behaviors among adolescents placed in detention centers under the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF). The study aimed to identify how family dynamics contribute to the emergence and persistence of challenging behaviors in socially vulnerable contexts. A qualitative, descriptive–analytical approach was employed using content analysis of recent research focused on adolescence, family systems, and institutional protection programs. The findings reveal that the absence of parental figures, domestic violence, poor communication, and authoritarian or permissive parenting styles are major risk factors, whereas cohesive, affectionate families with clear boundaries act as protective factors that foster emotional regulation and social adaptation. Furthermore, the study concludes that institutional support from the ICBF plays a crucial role in adolescents’ resocialization processes, although its effectiveness depends on strong collaboration with families and community networks. In conclusion, disruptive behaviors should not be viewed as isolated individual manifestations but rather as the result of interactions between family, social, and institutional systems. This calls for comprehensive, integrative strategies aimed at strengthening emotional bonds, preventing recidivism, and promoting adolescents’ psychosocial well-being.
