Abstract
The general objective of this research was to identify the challenges faced by single mothers in the 21st century at the Fundación Madres Solteras Colombia. The methodology adopted a comprehensive and interpretive paradigm, with a qualitative research type, an inductive method, and a descriptive approach. The sample included three single mothers from the Fundación Madres Solteras Colombia, who participated in individual interviews and a focus group. Through this data collection, the main challenges and coping strategies were identified, revealing significant issues in managing time and balancing their parental and work responsibilities, which imposes a considerable burden. Economic instability emerges as a critical challenge, worsened by a lack of effective support networks, limiting their access to resources and services. Although they strive to improve their financial situation through self-employment and entrepreneurship, they encounter additional difficulties, such as a lack of institutional support. In conclusion, it is shown that the absence of strong support networks and social stigma exacerbates their problems, impacting their emotional and family well-being. Furthermore, the phenomenon of "parentification," where children take on emotional roles, negatively affects their development and family dynamics. Despite these challenges, they generally demonstrate notable resilience and adaptability, with support from family and friends, as well as professional intervention, such as family therapy, proving essential to improving their situation.
