Abstract
The year 2020 witnessed an international crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely affected several industries, including the construction sector in Colombia. The control measures implemented, such as mandatory containment, had a significant impact on the development of public and private works, interrupting projects and affecting GDP growth and job losses in the sector. This research report uses a mixed methodology, combining an exhaustive documentary analysis and the collection of relevant data from governmental, academic and statistical sources, which allows us to analyze the effects generated by the pandemic on the construction sector, highlighting its resilience and subsequent recovery thanks to governmental stimulus policies and adaptation to new market conditions. The results of the analysis revealed that, although the sector has shown positive post-pandemic growth, it faces considerable challenges, such as labor shortages, supply chain disruptions, and the need to implement stringent health and safety measures. In addition, changes in demand for space were identified, requiring a focus on more flexible and sustainable designs. Despite having overcome a recessionary phase, uncertainty persists, which requires the implementation of adaptation strategies
