Abstract
The present study aims to understand the main differences that generate burnout syndrome and stress among domestic service workers employed formally and informally. To achieve this, a mixed research methodology has been implemented, combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods allow for the collection of non-quantifiable data and participants’ perspectives, enriching the analysis with their experiences and perceptions regarding stress and burnout in their work environment. On the other hand, the quantitative approach seeks to gather quantifiable information to conduct a statistical analysis that highlights the differences in stress levels and burnout syndrome among domestic workers in various regions of Colombia. The results indicate that among informal workers, stress and burnout are related to job instability, lack of benefits, and precarious economic conditions. In contrast, formal workers, while facing stress due to workload overload and adherence to protocols, enjoy greater stability and security. Interpersonal relationships and social support at work are crucial factors influencing the level of stress and burnout in both groups. In conclusion, the research highlights that labor conditions, both formal and informal, significantly affect the mental health of domestic workers, emphasizing the need to promote more equitable and healthy work environments.
