Abstract
The systematization of professional practice at EMSERFUSA in the municipality of Fusagasugá, Cundinamarca, was developed in response to the need to improve the safety of workers at the central plant due to the lack of existing controls for the management of chemical risk, present in the handling of chemical substances used for water treatment, and maintenance of tanks at the plant. The main objective is the development of a safe handling manual for the handling and storage of chemical products, intended to mitigate the occupational risks inherent to the activities carried out at the plant, taking into account potential accidents resulting from incorrect handling of the substances handled. This initiative was framed in a methodology focused on experience proposed by the author Oscar Jara Holliday, which focuses on the identification of inadequate processes when handling hazardous substances and the reconstruction of learning to design strategies that allow effective improvements. Survey and observation techniques were applied to collect data on the perception of chemical risk and the Globally Harmonized System present in the activities carried out daily by plant workers. Emphasis was placed on the need to raise awareness of current occupational risks and promote safe processes. Finally, the survey is analyzed, the intervention measures generated in the hazard matrix and the dissemination of the safe handling manual for the manipulation, classification and storage of chemical substances, thus obtaining results of great impact for the plant personnel and the dissemination of the experience in the other water treatment plants in the company.
