Abstract
This thesis addresses social barrismo as a stigmatized youth expression, but one with transformative potential in community contexts. In Santa Bárbara, Antioquia, the Santa Bárbara Verdolaga and Xta Bárbara La Leyenda Viva del Xuroexte hooligan groups have gone from being viewed as conflictual actors to becoming agents of social change. Based on this problem, the general objective is to analyze the impact of the social work carried out by the hooligan groups in the municipality of Santa Bárbara, Antioquia, identifying their main actions, scope, and contributions to community development. The research was conducted using a qualitative-participatory approach, through interviews, direct observation, and close monitoring of hooligan group activities between 2023 and 2025. This approach allowed for the recognition and appreciation of the voices and experiences of the hooligans, as well as the way they build identity and citizenship through soccer. The results show that social barrismo has strengthened youth participation, a sense of belonging, and community organization. Through murals, environmental campaigns, cultural events, and coexistence campaigns, these supporters have generated dynamics that promote inclusion and solidarity in the municipality. The conclusion is that supporters' associations, far from representing a risk, can become a platform for social transformation when their community value is recognized and embraced. This work demonstrates that soccer, beyond its sporting nature, is a vehicle for unity, resistance, and collective development in areas marked by inequality and conflict.
