Abstract
El agua es símbolo común entre humanidad, equidad social y justicia. Sin
embargo, su desabasto, escasez, distribución desigual, competencia por su uso, contaminación, cambio climático y falta de un marco ético de regulación han
ocasionado su crisis mundial. El acceso al agua es un derecho fundamental
ligado al derecho a la salud, medio ambiente y alimentación. Este último, está
estrechamente relacionado con la agricultura intensiva. El sector agrícola es el
principal proveedor de alimentos a nivel mundial. También, es el que utiliza
la mayor cantidad de agua dulce disponible para consumo humano (70 %).
Por lo anterior, se pretende analizar la crisis del agua desde sus dilemas éticos,
haciendo especial énfasis en la problemática del uso del agua en la agricultura
y establecer una propuesta para realizar un uso eficiente de esta sustancia en
la producción de alimentos. A partir de esta revisión, se evidencia la necesidad
de contar con estrategias para la adecuada gestión y uso eficiente del agua,
tanto en la agricultura como en otros sectores económicos. No solo a partir de
un marco jurídico sino desde un marco ético, en donde todos los responsables
de la crisis del agua participen en la búsqueda de soluciones.
Water is a common symbol of humanity, social equity and justice; however, its shortage, scarcity, unequal distribution, competition for its use, pollution, climate change, and lack of an ethical regulatory framework have led to its global crisis. Access to water is a fundamental right linked to the right to health, the environment and food; the latter is closely related to intensive agriculture. The agricultural sector is the main supplier of food worldwide, but it is also the one that uses the largest amount of freshwater available for human consumption (70 %). Therefore, the aim is to analyze the water crisis from its ethical dilemmas, with special emphasis on the problem of water use in agriculture, as well as to establish a proposal for an efficient use of this substance in food production. This review shows the need for strategies for the proper management and efficient use of water, both in agriculture and in other economic sectors, based not only on a legal framework but also on an ethical framework, in which all those responsible for the water crisis participate in the search for solutions.
