Abstract
The civilian population in Colombia has been immersed for decades in different structural conflicts, which has permeated the fragmentation of society, fostering aggressive and repetitive behaviors among Colombians. One of the conflicts that brought more inequality and violation of rights, was led by the peasant self-defense groups and the consolidation of the FARC-EP, which led the national government to create Law 1732 of 2014 that aims to incorporate a chair of peace in the study plan of public and private institutions, based on the civic competencies that are described by Chaux (2004) as the necessary social skills for participation and civic construction in order to promote the behavior of children and adolescents and likewise promote adequate dynamics in their family, social and educational environment, taking into account that it is from education where societies are transformed. The objective of this research was to analyze the citizenship competencies that fifth grade students apply and develop at the Instituto Técnico Industrial, Camilo Torres campus, from their sociocultural context and the implementation of the Peace Chair, with a sample of 43 people including students, parents and a member of the teaching staff, with whom it was possible to demonstrate the importance of the environment in the comprehensive learning of students and to create an adequate strategy that allows the educational community to train citizens in citizen skills and actors who contribute to the construction of a peaceful and developing society.
