Abstract
Este proceso de sistematización buscó reconstruir la experiencia en torno al quehacer del
Trabajador Social en el desarrollo integral del adulto mayor, así como el fortalecimiento de las
redes de apoyo familiar, social e interinstitucional que rodean al adulto mayor en el hogar de
bienestar San Gabriel, en donde el abandono es una de las problemáticas más recurrentes en esta
población, se busca la vinculación de la red familiar al proceso de institucionalización para la
superación de imaginarios desfavorables, entre los cuales están los resentimientos, desplazamiento
del grupo familiar y el poco tiempo de calidad que se comparte con el adulto mayor, logrando que
cumplan y se responsabilicen a cabalidad de lo que demanda la población en cuanto a: tratamientos
médicos, sostenimiento y autocuidado aspectos esenciales para mejorar su calidad de vida. A través
de la reconstrucción de la experiencia, se genera un análisis crítico de la intervención que se realizó
durante la práctica profesional permitiendo reconocer los impactos generados, no sólo en la
población adulta mayor sino también, en el profesional en formación donde se resignifica el
quehacer del profesional por medio de aprendizajes significativos. A fin de, que se reconozca la
importancia de la intervención en estos campos de acción donde es necesario trabajar
continuamente en el fortalecimiento de las redes de apoyo del adulto mayor. Finalmente se busca
divisar la realidad de las problemáticas existentes en la población y la importancia del trabajador
social en este campo de acción profesional, donde se identificaron falencias o debilidades en el
momento de dar a conocer eficientemente dichas problemáticas y necesidades debido a que existe
desconocimiento en la investigación y tratamiento de las mismas ya que si estos procesos no se dan
conocer no se podrá garantizar una mejor atención y cuidado a los adultos mayores
institucionalizados.
