Abstract
This undergraduate thesis, entitled “Influence of Social Imaginaries on the Interpersonal Relationships of People Diagnosed with HIV in the City of Medellín – Antioquia,” addresses the social imaginaries surrounding the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), understanding how these have influenced the histories, perceptions, and attitudes toward people living with the virus. Therefore, it begins by presenting a general overview of HIV at the global, national, and local levels, highlighting its evolution in terms of advances in prevention and treatment, and the various social and cultural challenges that still persist. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, focused on understanding experiences and meanings. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five participants who shared their experiences and reflections on HIV, allowing for an in-depth analysis of the perceptions and stories associated with the topic. Through the analysis of testimonies, it was identified that social imaginaries continue to be marked by myths and prejudices, although more humane and understanding perspectives are also emerging, as a result of information and awareness campaigns surrounding the virus.
