Abstract
In this research, the challenges faced by people with chronic kidney disease within their families are examined from the perspective of Social Work. The family plays a fundamental role in providing support and adapting to chronic illness. The study focuses on understanding the internal family dynamics in response to the disease, specifically among patients in the Niquia neighborhood. It aims to identify changes in daily routines, roles, and responsibilities within these families and compare their quality of life before and after diagnosis. Additionally, it investigates the coping strategies used by patients and their families. This comprehensive approach considers the medical, emotional, and social needs of those affected, seeking to improve quality of life and strengthen family resilience. Social Workers play a key role throughout all stages of the research, from study design to the dissemination of results, addressing the social and emotional complexities of chronic kidney disease. The research also ensures rigorous ethical considerations, guaranteeing confidentiality and emotional support. The multifaceted impact of chronic kidney disease on patients and their families is emphasized, as the disease affects internal dynamics. Characterized by its progressive and debilitating nature, the illness requires renal replacement therapies such as dialysis or transplantation. In Colombia, the prevalence of this disease and its associated costs have significantly increased, highlighting its relevance as a public health issue. Furthermore, the research focuses on how chronic kidney disease transforms family dynamics, creating tensions and imbalances in family relationships and roles. By understanding these dynamics, the study seeks to provide a solid framework for improving the quality of life of patients and their families, addressing both medical and socio-emotional needs, and promoting comprehensive well-being and resilient adaptation for families affected by chronic kidney disease.
