This research aims to understand how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being integrated into the Colombian insurance sector, recognizing as a starting point the various obstacles that hinder the process—some of them human in nature, fueled by fears that automation might reduce human involvement in decision-making. This generates uncertainty regarding control over critical actions such as policy approvals or claims assessment. The study follows a post-positivist paradigm, with a relational scope, using an inductive approach and a quantitative method. It is a non-experimental exercise that applies a survey adapted with a Pearson’s temporal stability Rho of 0.95 and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.93. The topic is explored using a non-probabilistic access-based sample, with a cross-sectional design involving 61 participants employed at five of the fourteen authorized insurance companies in Colombia. Key results: A moderate positive technological dependency is identified among operators, associated with the duration of AI use at work. Administrative and operational performance functions with AI show a Spearman’s Rho of 0.601 in relation to the operators’ gender. The performance means analysis by gender shows no differences. Conclusions: A predominance of male hiring in the sector is observed. AI is confirmed to be used for time-saving and risk assessment, claims, and customer service tasks. There is moderate technological dependency due to usage intensity, not related to gender or age. ChatGPT is identified as a leading tool, even compared to specialized applications in the sector.
