Abstract
This study investigated the contribution of artistic and cultural management processes to the social development of the young participants of Shir Star, a group located in marginalized communities in Medellín. Employing a qualitative and explanatory approach, the research used semi-structured interviews and focus groups with active participants, ex-participants and leaders. The findings reveal that Shir Star operates an informal, human-centered, self-managed model that integrates urban dance training with human development workshops that instill values such as solidarity and responsibility. This approach cultivates discipline, teamwork and leadership, significantly reorienting participants' life projects towards education and professional development. The group fosters greater self-esteem and creates a protective social network, mitigating risks such as violence and early pregnancy. Shir Star also raises community awareness and transforms gender imaginaries. These results underscore how art and cultural management, despite resource constraints, effectively empower vulnerable young women, offering a replicable model for inclusive social development policies.
