Abstract
This documentary research examines the relationship between visual arts and socio-affective development in children aged 4 to 5 years, through an exploration of scientific literature published between 2020 and 2024. The study addresses the need to understand how different modalities of visual arts contribute to emotional and social development during this critical stage of child development. Through a documentary review methodology, studies that implemented various artistic interventions were analyzed, including free drawing, finger painting, clay modeling, collage, and other expressive techniques. The findings reveal that visual arts function as effective tools for promoting key aspects of socioaffective development, including emotional self-regulation, self-esteem, and social skills. The analyzed studies demonstrate that different artistic modalities offer specific benefits: free drawing facilitates emotional expression, clay modeling strengthens self-esteem, and group painting activities promote cooperation and empathy. Additionally, it is identified that structured artistic interventions, when implemented consistently, produce significant improvements in children's ability to understand and express emotions, develop positive interpersonal relationships, and strengthen their cultural identity. This study is framed within a qualitative paradigm, specifically as a state of the art with a hermeneutic approach that contributes to the educational field by providing an updated synthesis of scientific evidence on the effectiveness of visual arts in children's socio-affective development. The results suggest the importance of integrating visual arts into educational programs aimed at children aged 4 to 5 years, considering their potential to promote comprehensive development.
