Water is a vital resource and a fundamental right, indispensable for human beings to live in dignity. Water must be sufficient, acceptable, affordable and safe for both domestic and personal use. However, by 2022, according to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2023), 27% of the world's population did not have a safe water supply. Since access to safe drinking water is a fundamental right, all people should be guaranteed access to quality water that meets the required specifications and standards. In the Villa Restrepo district of the municipality of Ibagué, Tolima, the inhabitants do not have drinking water because the aqueduct infrastructure is not in optimal conditions and is in a state of deterioration (Bohórquez, 2023). When this problem was identified, the design of a domestic filter for water treatment was proposed as an economical and accessible measure to make it suitable for human consumption. It is essential to ensure the safety of the population in terms of health and quality of life, as well as the quality of the water consumed. These filters are designed to remove a wide range of contaminants and particles that pose risks to human health, using natural products (phytochemicals) instead of chemicals, which facilitates their understanding and acceptance by the community. In addition, this initiative has the potential to improve tourism and the socioeconomic development of the village.
