Under the title "Los Recicladores de Bello: A Look at their Impact on Sustainability “, this undergraduate thesis will evaluate the work performed by the senior waste pickers of Bello, Antioquia and their contribution to sustainable development. The study will use a qualitative approach to expose the importance of their work in the proper management of solid waste, their role in the circular economy and how it improves the quality of life in the region. Most of these recyclers belong to a group called Corporación Luz y Vida: Actitud Positiva, and basically they are in trouble not only because they have not received social recognition or are economically insecure but also because there is a certain degree of stigma associated with their old age. Semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation and focus groups were used to highlight their importance in urban sustainability and to call for a re-evaluation of their work by society. It is intended that through this research their impact on waste reduction will be made visible and stereotypes associated with old age will be dismantled, positioning these recyclers as key actors in the sustainability process.
