Abstract
This undergraduate thesis analyzes the relational dynamics within families who have a member with spina bifida and how these dynamics influence their quality of life. The research approaches spina bifida as a congenital condition of the neural tube that generates physical, emotional, and social implications not only for the affected individual but also for their family environment. Through theoretical and documentary review, the study identifies the transformations that occur in family roles, communication, and emotional bonds, as well as the challenges faced by primary caregivers mostly mothers due to emotional, economic, and time overload. The findings reveal that families must reorganize their structure and strengthen their support networks to adapt to the situation, developing coping strategies, resilience, and mutual support. The study highlights the importance of institutional assistance, access to healthcare services, and the role of Social Work in promoting inclusive and equitable family environments.
