Abstract

Businesses account for 57.55% of jobs in the area, but bars and food businesses have suffered especially. The lack of acceptance of electronic payments has led to lost profits and decreased competitiveness. The objective is to demonstrate how the use of credit cards can maximize profits and activate the economy in Itagüí. 100 surveys were carried out, 50 in establishments and 50 to consumers, in the Los Naranjos neighborhood to understand the lack of acceptance of electronic payments. A mathematical model quantifies the economic losses for not accepting credit cards. The results show that low acceptance limits income and affects profitability and competitiveness. The acceptance of credit cards reduces the risk of theft and fraud and improves consumer perception. The implementation of electronic payments improves profitability and the customer experience, since customers who use credit cards have a higher average income. Business owners should consider this as a long-term investment.
