Abstract
Poultry farms are establishments where the practice of raising poultry for commercial purposes is carried out, either for the sale of meat or eggs. However, poultry production, like any other industry, requires high internal standards of care to maintain its economic activity. This monograph aims to review the social, environmental, and ecological impact of poultry farms in the Urabá region of Antioquia in their production process. The positive and negative effects that these poultry farms have on their surroundings are analyzed. This work focuses on key aspects such as: production processes, waste management, and compliance with environmental regulations. Therefore, the research question posed is: What is the social, environmental, and ecological impact of poultry farms in the Urabá region of Antioquia? Understanding the social impact of the role involved in the production of their economic activity will contribute to the prior knowledge of interested stakeholders. To carry out this analysis, the research is proposed under a descriptive qualitative approach, which implies a correct collection of crucial elements that allow the direct observation of the processes and practices of the poultry farms. Qualitative research offers us an inductive process based on the logic of exploration, description, and, therefore, a theoretical perspective. The methodology also involves the review of documents and environmental regulations. On the other hand, this case study lies in the need to identify and mitigate the negative impacts of poultry farms on both the environment and the local community. This project is expected to benefit various stakeholders, such as companies, the community, and environmental authorities. This study has an explanatory scope where clarity and precision are sought regarding the causes related to the research question. Explanatory research aims to explain why a phenomenon occurs along with other events in which two or more variables manifest (Sampieri, 2014). Furthermore, it seeks to contribute to the improvement of production practices and environmental sustainability. Therefore, through regulations, poultry farms that engage in this activity must adhere to regulated conditions, as this should be governed, and a way to demonstrate this good relationship with natural resources is to ensure compliance with the norms.
