Abstract
Eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorders, represent a major challenge in the field of mental health, affecting various populations, including athletes. This is especially true in disciplines where weight control is crucial for competitive participation, such as taekwondo, a sport organized by weight categories, which encourages the emergence of risky eating behaviors. The objective of this research was to identify the risk of developing anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder in a group of 32 young people, aged between 18 and 25, practicing taekwondo in clubs from the Valle de Aburrá during 2025. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. For data collection, two standardized and validated instruments were applied: the Binge Eating Scale (BES), used to detect binge eating episodes and their severity, and the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), employed to assess the risk of anorexia and bulimia. The results showed a higher presence of behaviors and attitudes associated with bulimia and anorexia, and a low risk of binge eating disorder. Likewise, it was found that combat sports, such as taekwondo, represent a significant risk factor for the development of eating behavior disorders in young athletes.
