Abstract
Esta investigación tiene como objetivo comprender como construyen identidades jóvenes gamers de 18 a 26 años pertenecientes a la comunidad de League of Legends (LoL) en la ciudad de Medellín en 2024. Se realizó bajo la metodología cualitativa, con el método de etnografía virtual utilizando técnicas como la observación participante-simple y un grupo de enfoque. Se contó con la participación de 6 jóvenes jugadores gamers de LoL. Los resultados evidenciaron que las narrativas identitarias son el intercambio de ideas, opiniones y emociones que se da a través de la comunicación verbal, permitiendo la construcción de significados compartidos y la creación de relaciones sociales; mientras que las construcciones subjetivas son el proceso mediante el cual se forma identidad a partir de las propias experiencias, percepciones y valores personales y son la manera en la que cada persona construye su propia visión de sí misma, basada en factores internos y externos que influyen en su autopercepción y en la forma en que se relaciona con el mundo. La identidad social hace parte del autoconcepto y surge de su pertenencia a un grupo social y la importancia emocional asociada a esa pertenencia. Todo esto permite comprender como los participantes construyen su identidad en un entorno virtual. Por último, se concluye que las narrativas identitarias proporcionan un lenguaje en común que nutre a la construcción subjetiva y a la formación de la identidad social.
This research aims to understand how young gamers from 18 to 26 years old belonging to the League of Legends (LoL) community in the city of Medellin in 2024 construct identities. It was conducted under the qualitative methodology, with the method of virtual ethnography using techniques such as participant-simple observation and a focus group. Six young LoL gamers participated in the study. The results showed that identity narratives are the exchange of ideas, opinions and emotions that occurs through verbal communication, allowing the construction of shared meanings and the creation of social relationships; while subjective constructs are the process by which identity is formed from one's own experiences, perceptions and personal values and are the way in which each person builds his own vision of himself, based on internal and external factors that influence his self-perception and the way he relates to the world. Social identity is part of the self-concept and arises from belonging to a social group and the emotional importance associated with that belonging. All this allows us to understand how participants construct their identity in a virtual environment. Finally, it is concluded that identity narratives provide a common language that nurtures the subjective construction and formation of social identity.
