Abstract
This report analyzes the psychosocial risks in the parental parenting styles of the families of children residing in the informal human settlements Los Cacaos and Nuevo Amanecer of the Municipality of Barbosa, Antioquia. Qualitative research was developed under the interpretative comprehensive paradigm, from which an approach to the subjects was made in order to understand them within their own frames of reference. The techniques used were structured interviews, discussion groups and a workshop called “Painting my family”. Based on the analysis, it became evident that the parental styles found in the territory are democratic, permissive and authoritarian, the latter being the predominant one in the families studied. On the other hand, it can be inferred that poverty, insecurity and lack of access to basic services and precariousness can aggravate the psychosocial aspects of children's mental and physical health. In this sense, the need for psychosocial intervention, the implementation of public policies and adequate guidance to parents to mitigate the negative impacts of social adversities on children's development is highlighted.
