Abstract
This research analyzes the decision-making process of three young women from Medellín who faced unwanted pregnancies and chose not to have an abortion. The participants, up to 30 years old, experienced their unwanted pregnancy between the ages of 14 and 28, facing physical, emotional and social challenges that shaped their experiences. A hermeneutic interpretive approach was used, through a case study based on semi-structured interviews. Three categories were identified: experiences of unwanted pregnancy, the decision-making process, and the predominant moral root of these decisions. The findings reveal that the meanings attributed to their experiences are subjective, affecting their feelings, thoughts, and decisions. Although initial emotion plays a crucial role in the initial decision, subsequent experiences and institutional support may motivate a shift toward continuing the pregnancy. Furthermore, it is concluded that deciding to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term does not necessarily lead to negative psychological effects; it can become an experience of acceptance and love towards the baby. The predominant moral root in the decision to continue the unwanted pregnancy was the community ethic, which prioritizes the values of the society or community to which they belong. This highlights the subjectivity of each woman's experiences, reflecting unique and personal meanings.
