Abstract
Abstract This research aims to analyze the factors influencing the decision of women in the El Chagualo neighborhood to undergo cosmetic breast and buttock augmentation surgery. Through interviews, it was identified that personal motivations are related to insecurities about their physical appearance, early experiences with critical narratives, and a deep desire to improve their self-perception and emotional well-being. In the social and cultural sphere, the study observed a normalization of cosmetic surgery in the neighborhood, the influence of friends, close family members, and public figures, as well as the pressure to meet certain beauty standards. Finally, although the participants acknowledge the risks involved, they minimize them due to the development of cognitive biases and the trust they place in those close to them. Thus, the decision to undergo surgery stems from the interaction of personal, social, and cognitive factors.
