Abstract
Abstract The purpose of this research was to understand the perception of emotional well-being among women aged 20 to 30 in the city of Bello who use oral contraceptives. Using a qualitative approach and a phenomenological design, participants' subjective experiences were explored through semi-structured interviews, analyzed based on units of meaning and categories related to emotions, self-care, and emotional management strategies. The findings revealed that oral contraceptive use generates an emotional experience intertwined with feelings of relief and control over planning and managing their sexual lives. It was also observed that the women developed various strategies to sustain their well-being, such as seeking social support, engaging in leisure activities, redefining their experiences, and self-regulation. These actions constitute tools for coping with the physical and emotional effects of the contraceptive method. It is concluded that women's emotional well-being is closely linked to how they manage their emotions and practice self-care in a context where decisions about contraception entail emotional costs. This study provides a more humane and contextual understanding of the phenomenon, encouraging comprehensive care that considers mental health as an essential part of reproductive support.
