Q+: : attitudinal barriers in school coexistence in relation to sexual and gender diversity

Abstract

Attitudinal barriers constitute systematic forms of exclusion of students with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities (OSIGD). These manifestations give rise to behaviors and actions that affect the participation, permanence and promotion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex and transgender students because these individuals are considered to exceed the social norm of heteronormativity as a construct. In this sense, the attitudinal barriers towards the population with OSIGD present in the context of schooling at IED Manuel Cepeda and their impact on coexistence were analyzed. The research had a phenomenological approach that allowed to know the conceptions about sexual orientations and gender identities of multiple participants of the educational community (students, teachers and school administrators). The analysis of the results revealed that there are not only barriers, but also agents, discourses and practices that function as facilitators. From this analysis emerged some recommendations for the context of the IED Manuel Cepeda Vargas, which are intended to be a support to achieve the inclusion of the population with OSIGD and contribute to the social transformations necessary to ensure the education of all people.
