Challenges and contributions of women in the floricultural sector of the Sibaté Cundinamarca region

Abstract

The floriculture industry appears forty years ago in fields dedicated to traditional agriculture in municipalities of the savanna of Bogotá such as Madrid, Chia, Tenjo, Cota, Mosquera, Funza, and Sibaté, among others. In these forty years of activity the floricultural sector grew and became one of the most important industries in the country and with more international projection. In 1995 the doors are opened to start exports to foreign countries and with it also a massive hiring of women. In the following research work, the challenges and contributions that women flower growers of the municipality of Sibaté will face daily will be exposed.

La industria floricultora aparece cuarenta años atrás en campos dedicados a la agricultura tradicional en municipios de la sabana de Bogotá como Madrid, Chía, Tenjo, Cota, Mosquera, Funza, y Sibaté, entre otros. En estos cuarenta años de actividad el sector floricultor creció y se convirtió en una de las industrias más importantes del país y con más proyección internacional. En el año 1995 se abren las puertas para iniciar exportaciones a países extranjeros y con ello también una contratación masiva de mujeres. En el siguiente trabajo investigativo se expondrán los retos y aportes a los que se deben enfrentar diariamente las mujeres floricultoras del municipio de Sibaté.
