Abstract
The high costs of conventional raw material to build housing of type VIP (Priority Interest Housing) in Colombia, impact the final cost of the same, the delivery time and in some cases the environmental factor, the population in need being directly affected by these variables For this reason, research is being carried out aimed at the design of new materials that, without affecting quality standards, minimize the impact on the referenced factors. The expanded polystyrene (EPS), is presented as an alternative material in the construction process and more specifically in the lifting of the masonry. For this purpose, the author carried out a descriptive study, where the properties of the proposed material (EPS) are characterized against the engineering requirements established in Colombia registered in the NSR-10 standard and with reference to VIP housing projects developed in The city of Girardot, prepared an economic study determining the feasibility index for the construction of future VIP housing projects.
