Abstract
This investigation addressed the issue of criminal recidivism among young people between 18 and 26 years of age in the city of Medellin and the department of Antioquia, taking young people incarcerated in the La Paz establishment in the municipality of Itagui as the study population. It was carried out considering the concern that arises from the increase in delinquency in the juvenile population and the repetition of these behaviors that lead to being deprived of liberty again. The main objective was to find and analyze the various causes that can be root, context or triggers of attitudes that generate new criminal actions. It was raised with a qualitative methodology with a historical approach and a critical stance. It was developed by conducting and analyzing surveys of 21 recidivist youth, as well as interviews with the staff of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) and with professionals who have ever worked with prisoners. According to the analysis carried out, it is concluded that more than one reason, there is a warp of situations, conditions and realities of a personal, social and state nature that drive, force and / enable the criminal recidivism of a considerable number of young people in the city, many of them currently confined in prison establishments.
