En este sentido, sepretende rastrear, en un periodo histórico particular, la relación entre las ideas y los procesos sociales.  This article offers a general view of the irruption of the Enlightenment in Spanish America at the end of the eighteenth century, especially in the field of education, and its articulation with some of the social dynamics that arose in the tension between the metropolis and the ultramarine provinces in the last colonial period of the Spanish Empire. The objective of this review is to show the political importance of the reflections on education in eighteenth-century America and its relationship with the social context, in order to dispel finalist ideas about the period of Independence. In this sense, it is intended to trace, ina particular historical period, the relationship between ideas and social processes. O presente artigo oferece um olhar geral da irrupção da Ilustração na Hispanoamérica do final do século XVIII, especialmente no âmbito da educação, e sua articulação com algumas das dinâmicas sociais que se apresentaram na tensão entre a metrópole e as províncias ultramarinas no último período colonialdo Império Espanhol. O objetivo desta revisão é mostrar a importância política das reflexões sobre a educação na América do xviii e sua relação com o contexto social, para assim dissipar ideias finalistas sobre o período da Independência. Neste sentido, pretende-se rastrear, num período histórico particular, a relação entre as ideias e os processos sociais.
