This project is a qualitative research exercise, in which the perceptions of community mothers
about comprehensive care in comprehensive well-being community homes in the northwestern
area of Medellin, Colombia were analyzed, through interviews and bibliographic reviews.
Comprehensive welfare community homes are run by a community mother, who cares for boys
and girls, according to the guidelines established by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare
(ICBF), which is in charge of carrying out programs that care for early childhood. The
interpretations were carried out through hermeneutics from the theoretical perspective of social
constructivism, and using the case study as a method.Three fundamental findings emerged from
this process of reflection: first, the community mothers' interpretation of early childhood and the
definition of community homes; Second, community homes are one of the actors that contributes
to comprehensive early childhood care and development, but these processes are not fully
provided, despite having an interdisciplinary team and community mothers doing their job ; and
third, community mothers have a workload, however, this could be improved if these women had
a direct contractual relationship with the ICBF. For the community mothers interviewed, the
work they do is extremely important, providing love, affection and protection to these children
from a family environment.
