| Description: | A "culture of violence" in Chile is o social fabric and a lifestyle in which violence becomes a recurring well established mean within social relations and day-to-day interactions. In the first port, we consider the historical background on the social and political violence from the Conquest period through the 1973 military coup; then we describe the main features of the Chilean political repression system. In the last section, we describe the predominant expressions taken on by social and workaday violence and elicit a hypothesis interpreting the dramatic increase of these forms of violence during the authoritarian political period. Lo que podría llamarse una <<cultura de lo violencia>> en Chile es uno organización social y una forma de vida en las cuales la violencia es un recurso permanente, enraizado en las relaciones sociales y en las interacciones cotidianas. Primeramente se ofrecen algunos antecedentes históricos sobre la violencia social y política desde lo Conquista hasta el golpe de 1973; luego se caracterizan los rasgos principales de la represión política y del sistema represivo chileno. Finalmente, se muestran las principales expresiones que asume la violencia social y cotidiana, y se enuncia una hipótesis interpretativa sobre el incremento de estas formas de violencia durante el período autoritario. |
