CAPÍTULO 7. Construcción de una concepción arendtiana de la bioética en tiempos de covid-19.

Abstract

Hannah Arendt desarrolla categorías básicas para dar sentido a la vida humana, particularmente a la natalidad, la acción, la pluralidad y la concepción de la moral. La capacidad de acción que tiene su origen en la natalidad y la construcción social del ser humano, garantizan a su vez la realización humana. La vulneración y no concreción de la realización humana, no solo pone en peligro a la sociedad, sino a la naturaleza humana. Asimismo, nos genera profundos sentimientos de frustración, particularmente cuando nuestra libertad se enfrenta a restricciones que son desarrolladas en el marco de la protección del bien público. Tal es el caso de la salud pública. Nos proponemos analizar bajo una concepción arendtiana de la bioética, las principales acciones sanitarias que las autoridades han implementado para hacer frente a la covid-19. Esto implica analizar su pertinencia bajo una mirada de la comprensión de la condición humana desde el comprender como concepto central en la filosofía de Hannah Arendt. En este contexto, buscamos ir más allá del concepto tradicional de la bioética arendtiana, rechazando en parte la concepción de que sus bases se encontrarían solo en la condición humana individual. Exponemos entonces, el rol central de la acción política, el juicio y la imaginación para construir comunidad. A partir de ello, buscamos ayudar a construir las bases de una nueva bioética arendtiana en tiempos de covid-19.

Hannah Arendt develops basic categories to give meaning to human life, particularly natality, action, plurality and the conception of morality. The capacity for action, which has its origin in natality and the social construction of the human being, in turn guarantees human fulfillment. The violation and non-realization of human fulfillment not only endangers society, but human nature itself. It also generates deep feelings of frustration, particularly when our freedom faces restrictions that are developed within the framework of the protection of the public good. Such is the case of public health. We propose to analyze under an Arendtian conception of bioethics, the main health actions that the authorities have implemented to address covid-19. This implies analyzing their relevance from the perspective of understanding the human condition, i.e. “understanding” as a central concept in Hannah Arendt’s philosophy. In this context, we seek to go beyond the traditional concept of Arendt’s bioethics, rejecting, in part, that its basis is to be found only in the individual human condition. We then expose the central role of political action, judgment and imagination in building community. From this, we seek to help build the foundations of a new Arendtian bioethics in times of covid-19.
